FAQS

1. I want to do 2 entries. Why do I have to use a different Poolie Name for my 2nd entry?

A: Having the same Poolie Name for 2 or 3 or 4 entries would be somewhat confusing to other participants.  So we all, including yourself, need a separate identification of some type. If you are very attached to the Poolie Name, then use it for all entries, but the system will add a number to the end of the name to help distinguish them.

2. Do I register again for Round 2 or 3 of the Playoffs?

A: No. When you register, the 1 time, it covers all the Playoffs Rounds. Registering takes care of the fees and adds you (your Poolie Name) to the list of participants.

3. Can I enter/register a 2nd or 3rd entry with a 2nd or 3rd Poolie Name, after Round 1 begins?

A: There is nothing that stops you from doing this. However I would not recommend this because the Pool & Standings, run from start to finish, accumulating your points over 4 rounds. Any series already underway, when you register, will not credit you any points. That’s a lot of ‘0’ points.

4. If I complete my cards & submit my cards, for round 1, then realize I have to ‘officially’ enter by registering; am I allowed to do that?

A: Yes. There is some leniency with these issues, with this Pool. After all, it is meant to be fun. It’s not like you are submitting PGP Cards when Round 1 is underway. But it is necessary to register as soon as possible.

5. Can I complete my cards & submit my cards, after the Round 1 deadline (after Round 1 is underway)? I’m worried I may be a bit late registering & submitting cards.

A: Yes. There is some leniency with these issues, with this Pool. After all, it is meant to be fun. However being 30-minutes or 60-minutes or 2-hours late will impact respectively, the decision to permit your late entry &/or void multiple games. I recommend contacting me ahead of time if you might have issues with any deadline.

6. If games don’t all start at the same time or day, then why not have deadlines for each game?

A: Round one deadline was set for all 8 series to avoid any misinterpretation or forgotten cards. The deadline helps ensure things are straightforward especially with a Playoff Pool of this type. If it were picking players; we would all have to submit our players at the one time, regardless of when any of those players will play.

7.  How do I know this Pool is all-legit? How do I know someone can’t change their picks after some games have been played like for instance the person running the Pool?

A: When a Poolie’s entry of PGP Cards are received, a snapshot/screenshot is taken of their Cards. This is then posted on this site on the “Poolies’ Picks” page. Anyone at anytime can take a snapshot of their own or save the html page for their own records. Any change to this info would clearly be noticeable. Please note that the thenhljl have been running hockey pools for over 20-years and have never been guilty of any such tampering. The thenhljl pride themselves on maintaining fair and honest pools the entire time.

8.  Do I have to complete and submit all of round 1 pgp cards at the same time? There are 8 series in round 1 btw.

A: No you do not have to complete & submit all 8 at the same time. The Series Cards for Round 1 are available in pairs so that Poolies can submit 1 pair at this time and another pair at another time. So long as all 4 pairs (8 cards) are completed & submitted before Round 1 deadline. Yes this was set up this way so that Poolies could take a break between submitting for whatever reasons like rest their eyes, rest their brain, avoid finger cramps, etc.

9.  ‘Games Won’ (sect 2) doesn’t specifically state which team wins games 4-2 or 4-3 & so on. If I pick the wrong winner but I’m correct with ‘games won’, do I still get points?

A: Yes you will still get points. Games won refers to the series. ie; “someone wins the series by 4 games to 2 games”. I will add a note/tip here on this page so that others are made WCS3game1aware.

‘Games Won’ you get points for being correct regardless who wins series.

Corrections, Issues, Adjustments…

CIA #1.  Aug 11 9:00pm Poolie reported an error with Round 1 PGP Card WCS3 (DAL VS CGY). They selected Calgary to win game 1 but the card receipt shows “Montreal” as the selection. This was checked, confirmed & noted as an error with the site data. The specific field with the PGP Card was corrected & each instance hi-lited “Montreal Calgary WIN” on Poolies Picks (receipts) page. Clearly any Poolie with Montreal displayed, for Game 1 being Dallas or Calgary, purposely selected Calgary as winner of game 1. This issue does not affect the outcome of the Pool.

CIA #2.  Aug 12 11:00am Poolie reported the time of their card submit “seems to be off”. I confirmed & it’s (been) an ongoing issue with my scripts. The time posts “1-hour” different than our (location) Eastern-Standard-Time, no matter what mods & adjustments I’ve made with the web-site’s scripts. This difference has not & does not cause any issue, therefore I ask everyone be aware of the 1-hour-off when seeing any submission. Submissions 2-hours off; will be verified.

CIA #3.  Aug 14 6:00pm its was reported “SUMMERICE” Poolie name appeared on multiple PGP Card Receipts. Next day all was checked & confirmed. There was a mix-up with 2 names being similar, “SUMMER ICE” & “SUMMER MELT”. This was corrected on the “SUMMER MELT” receipts & “SUMMER ICE” was changed to “ON THIN ICE” on the receipts to avoid any further confusion.

CIA #4.  Aug 19 10:00pm its was reported “COIN TOSS” Poolie add a duplicate of Cards “ECS3 Tampa Bay VS Columbus and ECS4 Philadelphia VS Montreal”, uploaded & posted on Poolies Picks Page. This was deemed an accepted human error and the proper WCS1 and WCS2 Cards were uploaded and posted. The Cards were placed bottom of page and the duplicate cards remained in place so the the error is evident to everyone.

CIA #5.  Aug 22 9:00pm Poolie SUMMER MELT emailed saying their card would not submit. Of course submitting around the deadline hour is the risk of time sync with PCs/Servers on each end; which would disable the submit-button. Their attempt to submit then reporting it at 9:01, it was agreed the picks (as per email) would be accepted. This 1/2-minute late will be ignored; after all the Pool is to be fun. The Poolie should agreed not to be late again.

CIA #6.  Poolie CRAPPOKAKKO tried submitting all 4 cards at approx 10:00am on Aug 22. It had been said the one card would be ready for 10am, but not all 4 cards. The Poolie wasn’t available later in day to submit therefore asked for his screen-shot image to be used in-place of online card submitting. This was agreed as it is in the rules (using alternative formats for card submitting).

CIA #7.  Reported Aug 23 that Game 1 of Vegas-Vancouver is displaying “Chicago”. This is my error. The field for that specific Game 1 was missed being updated from Chic to Van.

CIA #8.  Reported Aug 24 Poolie SAINTLEAFADAM missed selecting series winner field on 2 of 4 Card entries. The reasons, being rushed & completing Cards on cell-phone. I believe it was an honest mistake & from all other choices on ea card the winner was obvious. Initially considered only accepting 1 of the 2 cards, but decided to acknowledge & accept both as per related fields on both Cards. This has also flagged a change-needed; to how the card receipts are displayed, as they are more congested with regards to clarity on mobile vs PC.
