Busy busy busy… as I keep adding stuff. Soon complete, so check back often. [ feel free to make suggestions

Downtown CP.

Is the town making the right decisions for what was and what will be CP’s Main Street?

Many small businesses have suffered to the point of closing for good. Personally I don’t think Covid had as much influence with this as many have been lead to believe.

Downtown problems have lingered for many years. Is it simply a common trait with many small towns?

Unfortunately what has been done, has been done. I’m looking forward to an improved downtown and like everyone else I’ll know in the near future how town council faired with their decisions and planning.

In this section, I will be focusing on what is here, for the residents (new and old) and the visitors… to Downtown Carleton Place.

So come back often for what I hope is interesting, entertaining and informative downtown posts for all to share.

The local watering hole.

As we all know, I assume, its original use and meaning was simply a watering hole, a location where animals would go to drink water.

How it came to be used as a term for a local establishment where people socialize and consume alchol isn’t as clear nor easily researched as everyone may think.

It wasn’t used in the 1800’s. Well it wasn’t documented anywhere, to suggest it was. It seems to me that somewhere between 1920s and early 1960s, it came to be used ‘commonly’.

Present day, the term (a place people socialize & drink) is used practically everywhere. If anyone knows any specifics about “watering holes” , please send them to me and I’ll share it here. Yes of course referencing where the info came from.
