HNIC PGP always starts the first Saturday of November. If anyone misses out on this date they can still partake by entering on the second Saturday of November. This is referred to as the “late-entry” date. Poolies using late-entry date to partake, accept the 1st Saturday’s # of visitor wins. (See rules for more details, or ask).

You can partake, pay entry fee and never complete a PGP Card and still win.

Each Card will be “auto-submitted” for you with the set defaults. These default values can win reg &/or cash Saturdays, and possibly the Pool.

Total Goals (tie-breaker) is often used in deciding winners. Therefore your Total Goals number, is significant. Replacing the default “40” is highly recommended.

Multiple Pool-Entries by one Poolie are accepted. This could increase your odds &/or let you implement and compare strategies for selecting winning teams. For each additional Pool-Entry, the Poolie’s entry fee is $35.

PGP Card deadline is always 1:00 pm each Saturday, regardless any games’ start time. This is clearly noted below every card’s Submit Button.

Wins and losses for Saturdays are calculated and posted on Sundays. These calculated wins and losses are then rechecked by the following Wednesday; before the online Card is switched-over to the next PGP Card.

At the bottom of the Standings’ page you’ll see “Virtual Poolies”. This table keeps count of home wins vs visitor wins. To satisfy my own curiosity and maybe yours.

The 2024-25 season, Home teams (odds) were surprisingly the better.

As of Jan 4/2025, if you had only picked home teams to win, every Saturday to date, you would have 72 Ws & 38 Ls.   But… see Virtual Poolies(3)below.

On Jan 4/25, this was the highest I’ve seen (Home over Visitor odds), over the past 6 years.

You can make comment, suggestions, complaints by using the Comments Field (found with each online PGP Card). Anything included in this field will not be posted. Only thenhljl (& you) see your comments.

Comments can help everyone, and helps the HNIC PGP Pool itself.

You can ask for a PGP reminder. This is done via text message. You’ll need to provide your cell number. Each Saturday you’ll receive a text (between 9:30 am & 12:00 pm). Note: You are still responsible to remember on your own, if for any reason, you do not receive a reminder. As backup, you have the “default card”.

On Jan 11, 2024-25, Visitors surprised all by winning 11 of 15 games. Yes you can win by not doing anything; letting the default PGP Card ride. However, this is not recommended as a strategy for all Saturdays thru the entire Pool season.

It’s recommended you check your own wins & losses each Saturday, and immediately report any error(s). Feel free to check others’ as well. It helps with finding and correcting errors sooner than later.  Do you, check your own wins & losses?

Following the last PGP Saturday, winners are not made “official” until a recheck of all wins & losses over the season is completed. Therefore the official announcement is on the following Monday. This is approximately 24 hours (for rechecking) after W’s & L’s are posted on the Sunday morning.

The final "Saturday winner" is determined in the same way as all other Saturday winners, by the most wins on the Saturday. In case of a tie, the closest to the total goals scored on that Saturday is used as the tiebreaker. The final “Saturday Pool winner" is determined by the most wins over the entire Pool season. In case of a tie, the closest to the total goals scored over the entire season is used as a tiebreaker.

The online PGP Card has a comments field you can use for suggestions, questions & new ideas? One Poolie wrote, can team names be used vs team cities’ names; or can you use both? ie: Ottawa vs Senators vs Ottawa Senators. This change is being considered. If more Poolies, prefer this they should say so in the comments. This change would happen sooner than later.
