HNIC PGP News, Rules, Issues & Prizes

Rules - Instructions

Basics

-  Pool begins on the first Saturday of November & covers most Saturdays thru the end of season.

-  Each Saturday has its own PGP card to be completed.

-  One time entry fee of $40 is due by second Saturday of November.

** Multiple entries by one Poolie are accepted. A 2nd entry, fee is only $35, and a 3rd entry (or more), fee is only $30 each.

    Example: Poolie ‘A’, 1 entry = $40, 2 entries = $75, 3 entries = $105

-  Deadline for each PGP Card is 1:00 pm on the given Saturday.

-  Every PGP Card submitted must create a date/time stamp.

-  Cards can be completed online or using hardcopy (or reasonable facsimile); a photo of, then emailed/text.

How to partake in this Pool

-  You partake/register when you submit the first PGP Card. Deadlines are always Saturday 1:00 pm.

-  Optional: Let me know prior to Nov 4th if planning to partake? (by email or directly via cell or in person). It helps everyone to know the possible # of participants.

-  Some personal info is required with your first card (only). Personal info is never posted or shared. Only your Poolie name is posted online.

-  Each PGP Saturday you complete the PGP Card by selecting the winners & entering total goals.

If you Forget

-  If you forget to submit a PGP Card, one is automatically submitted for you. This Card is submitted with all set defaults.

-  The set defaults are: A) all visitor teams selected and B) total goals = 40.

-  You can still win individual Saturdays, as well as the entire Pool. Regardless forgetting to complete multiple Cards (because of these set defaults).

-  Yes you can win by doing nothing at all after you register & pay the entry fee.

Late Entry Date

-  There’s a late-entry date, if you miss the very first card. You complete the 2nd Saturday’s Card and accept the defaults from the first Saturday’s Card.

-  Visitors are selected by default on every Card. However, the number of visitor wins on a missed first card cannot exceed 70% of the number of games.

Example A: First Sat has Ten games… 4 of the visiting teams win. The late-entry (2nd Sat) credits you with 4 out of 10 wins (& total goals = 40).

Example B: First Sat has Ten games… 8 of the visiting teams win. The late-entry (2nd Sat) credits you with 7 of 10 wins (& total goals = 40).

How to fill-out the PGP Card

Online:

-  Go to the Online PGP Card web-page.

-  Select the radio-button adjacent the team you think will win. Note that all visitor teams are selected by default.

-  Include the total goals scored (all teams & games combined on that Sat).

-  Your name & email address is only required the one time (on your first PGP Card submission. All future cards need only your Poolie name.

-  When finished, click ‘Submit’. The web-page will instantly refresh & display your picks.

-  You can right-click anywhere on this page & do save-as (for your own records). The fact you see your picks, confirms they have been received & logged.

-  A snap-shot is taken of every entry. This image is posted on the Poolies Picks web-page each Saturday. Regardless when posted every entry has a date/time stamp.

Hardcopy:

-  Any reasonable facsimile with easy to read team names.

-  Add a mark (‘X”) only beside the team you think may win.

-  Include the total goals scored (all teams & games combined on that Sat).

-  Include your Poolie-Name (always use the same Poolie-Name).

-  Take photo of this and email it or text it (if you have my number). This creates the date time-stamp.

About Tie-Breaker

-  Total goals means both visitors & home teams’ goals combined. These total goals are recorded thru the entire season and used as a tie-breaker.

-  If a tie-breaker is required for any individual Saturday, only that individual Saturday’s tie-breaker is used, to confirm the winner.

-  Tie-breaker for individual Saturdays goes to the closest (over/under) to actual total goals scored on that Saturday.

If a tie still remains, the Poolie who is ‘under’ gets the win. If still tied, prize &/or points are shared on that Saturday.

-  If a tie-breaker is required for the final standings, all the Saturdays’ tie-breakers (over the season) are totalled & used, to confirm the winner.

-  Tie-breaker for the final standings goes to the closest (over/under) to the total goals scored.

-  If a tie still remains, the Poolie who is ‘under’ gets the win. If still tied, the prize is shared.

Prizes

The Pool Money This section was updated, Nov 12, to reflect the final number of participants.

-  A one-time entry fee of $40.00 gives you approx 20 Saturday picks. Multiple entries accepted **.

-  A $20.00 website fee is deducted from total entry fees. Remaining $$$ goes to prizes - to you.

   This 2023-24 season has 30  (including late entries) Poolies X $40 = $ 1,200 and therefore a cash prizes pot of $ 1,180.

Prizes

-  The following figures are adjusted accordingly, as per the number of participants. These amounts are confirmed by the second Saturday of November.

-  The number of Saturdays paying instant $40 cash to Poolies with most wins on ‘Cash-Card’ Saturdays is 6 for a total $ 240 for the season.

-  $ 840 goes to 1st place overall (most correct wins for the season).

-  $ 100 goes to 2nd place overall (2nd most correct wins for the season). The amount is based on getting the $40 entry fee back and number of participants.

Winners & Money

Winners of PGP Cash Cards and of the final standings Cash, are contacted individually (within 48 hours) and arrangements made to receive their cash prizes.

Everyone should think fun, and have fun while partaking in any thenhljl hockey pool. more

News & Info

If you want to take a snap-shot of Poolies picks, particularly on the current Saturday (for your own records), please feel free. I recommend shortly after 1:00 pm deadline. This way you include any 1:00 pm entries and late postings/uploads.

You can do a screen capture or <right-click> anywhere on the page & do <save-as>.

Note:

At 1:00 pm the PGP Card Submit Button is disabled. If for any reason (ie Poolies’ browser settings) a Card is submitted and received passed 1:00 pm, it’s immediately flagged and examined. If it’s not detrimental or unfavourable with respect to the overall pool and its date/time stamp is only a few seconds passed; it may be accepted (given the ok). After all, every effort is made to ensure this pool is fair and honest and included with this effort, is the importance of Poolies having an enjoyable experience while participating. Please do understand, just a few “minutes” passed is different, and most likely will not be accepted.

Each entry and it’s date/time stamp is verified, prior to acceptance, and posting. Every flagged entry is posted here with proper explanation of why it was accepted or not accepted. If any Poolie questions an entry they are encouraged to review this page and contact the pool for additional explanations and clarity.

Postponed or Cancelled Games

* Postponed is the same as cancelled

Any Saturday scheduled game postponed until a later date, is considered void (cancelled), regardless which team was picked to win. The rescheduled game is considered a completely new game, on whichever day of the week it lands.

Any Saturday game or group of Saturday games cancelled, and no later dated intended, are considered void. If the total number of cancelled games reduces the predetermined number of PGP Sat Cards by quantity 3 or more, prizes will not be awarded, based on that predetermined number of PGP Cards. Partial prizes and discounts will be provided; so to have closure to an unfinished season.

Poolies are solely responsible for monitoring games that can be or have been postponed, when completing PGP Cards. More specifically total number of goals score on the respective Saturday. For example if 12 games are scheduled and 2 are postponed, a Poolie may consider a lower number of total goals scored (qty 10 vs qty 12). Note: All Poolies have the option of resubmitting their PGP Cards regardless the reason. Any resubmitted Card must abide by the 1:00 pm deadline.

Issues & Errors

-  If a Poolie forgets to submit their picks a defaulted card is submitted for them. All visitor teams and total goals 40.

If they do remember, and call or text me; accepting all visitor teams, home teams, etc.. and change total goals to whatever, I will do this for them.

If any Poolie (who remembers) but has problems picking, or accessing the online card for whatever reason, I will help them with what teams & goals they want. This is the “keeping pools fun” part, of thenhljl.

-  The Poolies’ Card (snapshot) was not displaying properly. Display was OK on local server, which is why, was missed on remote server. Poolie Card entry verified as per date-timestamp on servers and email receipt records.

-  All 13 games scheduled on November 18th, including Game #1 between Minnesota and Ottawa in Sweden at 17:00 CET / 11:00 ET, are valid PGP games. As per the rules, the deadline for every PGP Card is 1:00 pm, and this will not change. All Poolies have access to the same information regarding each game as well as resources available. The start time will vary per game, but the deadline remains 1:00 pm. It is important to note that there is no advantage to any Poolie, as all Poolies have access to the same information regarding the game start times and deadline.

In case of any changes or incorrect postings of start times, the above statement remains unchanged.
