Pick the winning teams each Saturday - Be the Poolie with the most correct wins... & you win the Pool.
Predicting the outcome of NHL Saturday’s games.
Info
- Pool begins on the first Saturday of November & covers most Saturdays thru the end of season.
- Each Saturday has its own PGP card to be completed.
- One time entry fee of $40.
- Multiple entries by one Poolie are accepted - additional entries = $35 ea.
- Deadline for each PGP Card is 1:00 PM on the given Saturday. Regardless any games’ start time.
- Every PGP Card submitted creates a date/time stamp.
- Cards can be completed online or using hardcopy template (or reasonable facsimile).
- You partake by submitting the first PGP Card prior to deadline. Registration is done at the same time.
- You include your name and email with your first card (only). This is how you register.
- Only your Poolie Name is posted online. Personal info is never posted or shared.
- Each Saturday you complete the PGP Card, selecting the winners & entering total goals.
If you Forget
- If you forget to submit a PGP Card, one is automatically submitted for you; with all the set-defaults.
- Set-defaults are: A) all visitor teams selected. and B) total goals = 40.
- With these set defaults you can win individual Saturdays, and possibly the Pool. Yes after you register & pay the entry fee, it’s possible for you can win (doing nothing more).
Late Entry Date
- If you miss the very first card, you can still partake in this Pool. You complete the 2nd Saturday’s Card, accepting the set-defaults from the first Saturday’s Card.
- The number of visitor wins on the missed first card cannot exceed 80% of the total number of games. The 80% restriction only pertains to that missed first card.
How to fill-out the PGP Card
Online:
- Go to the Online PGP Card web-page.
- Select the radio-button adjacent the teams you think will win.
- Include the total goals scored (all games combined on that Sat).
- Include a Poolie name (hockey pool nickname).
- Include your name & email address (on the first PGP Card only).
- Finished?… click ‘Submit’. The web-page will auto-refresh & display your picks. The fact you see this, confirms your entry is received and logged.
- Want to save this? You can right-click anywhere on this confirmation page & do save-as or print (for your own records).
In Chrome browser, click Menu, Cast, Save & Share; or with any browser, use keys <CTRL><S>.
- Remember, deadline for each PGP Card is always 1:00 PM on the given Saturday.
- Every PGP Card submitted is logged and a snap-shot is taken, uploaded and posted on the Poolies’ Picks webpage (~1:00 PM to ~1:15PM) each Saturday.
- Regardless when pics are posted, every entry has a date/time stamp.
Hardcopy:
- Use any reasonable facsimile, that lists all the Saturday games/teams. Or download a blank PGP Card (or ask 1 to be sent to you). Schedules & Cards are here.
- Clearly identify the teams you think will win.
- Include the total goals scored (all games combined on that Sat).
- Include your Poolie-Name. If this is your first Card, include your name and email.
- Once complete, take photo of this and email or text it (if you have my #). This creates a date time-stamp.
- Total goals means all goals scored on the Saturday. These total goals are recorded thru the entire season and used as a tie-breaker.
- If a tie-breaker calc is required for any individual Saturday, only that individual Saturday (Poolies’) tie-breakers are used.
- Tie-breaker for individual Saturdays goes to the closest (over/under) to actual total goals scored on that Saturday.
- If a tie still remains, the Poolie who is ‘under’ gets the win. If still tied, prize is shared for that Saturday.
- If a tie-breaker is required for the final Pool’s standings, the Poolies’ Saturday tie-breakers (over the season) are totalled & used, to confirm the winner.
- Tie-breaker for the final standings goes to the closest (over/under) to the total goals scored.
- If a tie still remains, the Poolie who is ‘under’ wins the final standings. If still tied, the prize is shared.
Poolies Picks - Notes
- The online card when submitted creates a date/time stamp. Verifying entry is prior to 1:00 PM deadline. Submissions are automatically sent to an hnicpgp email address.
- A snapshot of each received Card is taken and uploaded/posted (on Poolies’ Picks page). Every effort is made so that all is uploaded between 1:00 & 1:15 PM.
- With hardcopy entries, a photo is taken and emailed or text’d. The photo and the email /text have a date/time stamp. Both are used to verify the card entry.
- If you want to take a snap-shot of Poolies’ picks-page, current Saturday or any Saturday (for your own records), please feel free.
- Entries are uploaded/posted right after 1:00 PM deadline. You can right-click on the page & do save-as or <CTRL><S>.
- Submit Button is disabled at 1:00 PM. If for any reason a Card is submitted/received passed 1:00 PM (ie; PC & Server cache & times?), it’s flagged.
If it’s not detrimental with respect to the Saturday or the overall pool, and is only a ~minute passed, it may be accepted.
Please do understand, “minutes” passed is different, and card will not be accepted.
Prizes & Fees
This section was updated Nov 8 following confirmation of Poolie #s (after Pool-Entry & Late-Pool-Entry deadlines)
The Pool Money
- A one-time entry fee of $40.00 gives you approx 20 Saturday picks. Multiple entries are accepted.
- A $10-$15 website fee (pending # of participants) is deducted from total entry fees. Remaining $$$ goes to prizes - to you.
- This 2025-26 season has 37 Poolies; (36 X $40) = $1440 and (1 X $35) = $35 and (- $15 admin fee). Therefore a cash prizes’ pot of $1460 ($1475 - $15).
- Multiple entries by one Poolie are accepted. Their additional entries = $35 ea. This season, 1 Poolie submitted 2 entries.
Prizes
- The following figures are adjusted accordingly, as per the number of participants. These amounts are confirmed by the second Saturday of November.
- The number of Saturdays paying instant $40 cash to Poolies with most wins on ‘Cash-Card’ Saturdays is 7 for a total $280 over the season.
- $1000 goes to 1st place overall (most correct wins for the season).
- $180 goes to 2nd place overall (2nd most correct wins for the season). This is based on the winner getting $40 entry refund, and a bonu$ (pending # of participants).
Winners
- Winners of PGP Cash Cards and of the Pool, are contacted individually (within 48 hours of winning) and arrangements made to receive their cash prizes.
- Any Saturday scheduled game postponed until a later date, is considered void (cancelled); regardless which team was picked to win. The rescheduled game is considered a completely new game, on whichever day of the week it lands.
- Any Saturday game or group of Saturday games cancelled and no later date intended, are considered void. If the total number of cancelled games reduces this pool’s number of PGP Saturdays by qty 3 or more, prizes will not be awarded. Partial prizes, &/or partial refunds &/or discounts will be provided, so to have closure to an unfinished season.
- Poolies are solely responsible for monitoring NHL scheduled games, for any changes (including postponed). More specifically, verifying total number of games being played on a PGP Saturday. As this can affect total goals score. Note: All Poolies have the option of resubmitting their PGP Cards regardless the reason. Any resubmitted Card must abide by the 1:00 PM deadline.
Every PGP Pool issue, error and flagged PGP Card entry, is posted here below with proper description and explanation. If any Poolie has comments or questions after reviewing this section (first), they are encouraged to contact the pool admin (me) for additional explanations and clarity.
- Nov 1st: Poolie TNT total goals had typo, they asked to change to “54”. Two Poolies having their Poolie name changed (TBD).
- Nov 2nd: Standings page was updated (in addition to wins/losses) to correct Poolie numbers and Saturday dates.
- Nov 8th: New Poolies joined Nov 8 (late-pool-entry). “Poolie D” changed Poolie name to “TRACHUK AROUND & FIND OUT”. No other Poolie name changes were requested.
- Nov 8th: Poolie reported “confused” phrase in About Tie-Breaker section. Sentence “If still tied, prize &/or points are shared for that Saturday”. Replaced with “If still tied, prize is shared for that Saturday”.
- Nov 11th: Two Poolies have requested that PGP cards be switched over earlier in the week. If more Poolies express a preference for this change, it may be possible to accommodate it. Currently, the new cards are guaranteed to be on Wednesday (late) to ensure they are enabled starting Thursdays. Occasionally, the switch does occur earlier, so check back often.
- Nov 15th: Correction made to Poolie name.
- Nov 18th: Poolie reported an error with the standing's percentage statistics. It was confirmed that the percentages had not been updated and were still displaying the previous stats from November 8. This issue was corrected on November 19.
- Dec 6th: Poolie 2 FEATHERS total goals had typo. This was assumed and changed to “46”.
- Dec 6th: Message from thenhljl - A Poolie submits their picks on Friday at 11:00 AM (for example), then may check the Poolies Picks page on Saturday and notice a submission timestamp of Friday at 9:00 PM. If a Poolie decides to resubmit their picks because they changed their mind (which is allowed), their previous submission will be replaced with the newer one. However, duplicate submissions are sometimes received randomly after the initial submission. To streamline the process and avoid having to review every submission, (duplicate or not) we assume the Poolies want their latest submissions accepted and we will disregard any previous picks.
This approach helps us manage the frequent occurrence of duplicate submissions as well. The primary cause of these duplicates seems to be the auto-reload feature in many mobile browsers, particularly on iOS, which caches pages to enhance performance.
If you would like further explanation, please feel free to contact me.
BTW I sometimes/often save these duplicates rather than deleting them outright; so if anyone would like to view their duplicates or be notified when they occur, please let me know.
- Dec 8th: (NEW) Your highest percentage of picking winners on a single Saturday to date. This was prompted by remarks made by a Poolie.
- Jan 3rd: Poolie name typo reported with “TRACHUK AROUND & FIND OUT”. Name has been changed to “TKACHUK AROUND & FIND OUT”.
- Jan 11: On Jan 7, while enabling the next PGP Card (Jan 10) the thenhljl website experienced unexpected CMS errors. Immediately, the PGP page was updated to reflect this issue, and it was noted that the PGP Card would not be be enabled until noon on Thurs, Jan 8.
Between 10:30 and 11:15 AM on Jan 8, the page had to be re-uploaded multiple times. Anyone trying to submit picks during this period likely encountered errors. By 11:15 AM, all issues were resolved and everything was functioning properly, except for the tab order of the game selections. This oversight was missed during the troubleshooting process and was not recognized or corrected until 10:00 AM on January 10. If anyone would like further clarification regarding this “mishap”, please feel free to ask.
- Jan 31: Jan 31, I missed seeing a submitted PGP Card via email. At ~ 2:15 I saw a txt msg telling me about the Card. I checked email and yes the Card was submitted prior to deadline (12:59:38pm) by Poolie HUNTER JAMES. Therefore this was a good Card and the Poolies Picks’ page was updated to include the card (removing the previous auto-submit). Poolies Picks’ page was re-uploaded at ~2:50 pm to reflect the update. Any questions or concerns or more clarification, just ask.
- Feb 28: Poolie THE COOK entry was 26 seconds past 1:00 pm deadline. As this is not ‘many’ seconds and the online form wasn’t disabled at 1:00 pm exactly (due to ?? server-time, pc-time, etc) the entry was accepted. Anyone wanting further explanation, just ask.
- Feb 28: Posting of Poolie page was slightly delayed today (multiple reasons) and was not available until 1:27 PM. Apologies for the delay. Typically this is completed by 1:01 to 1:15 PM. Also to remind you, regardless when Poolies’ Picks page is uploaded, every entry has a date-time stamp as well the snaps-shots of each entry. Anyone having concern or question, just ask.
- Mar 28: Poolie BARNBURNER’s picks for Sat Mar 28 was received but the snapshot of their PGP Card was accidentally duplicated on the Poolies Picks Page. This duplicate snapshot is simply ignored. This way it wasn’t necessary to upload (re-post) the Poolies Picks page to show any correction. Its standard practice to try and avoid re-posting the page unless deemed necessary. The page will have a ref-note added at another time.
- Apr 12: This note is also included on the DUK page.
Reminder the Final Saturday winner is treated like all the other Saturday winners. Most wins, win. The Pool winners are determined differently. This Sat Apr 11 results 6 Poolies tied; as the 6 were auto-submits with Tie-Breaker not relevant (all had “40” goals). If the 6 had tied for 1st or 2nd place then their total goals for the season would have been calculated to determine 1st & 2nd pl. These 6 Poolies will share the $40. The amount is rounded off to $6.00 per Poolie and can be a cash handout or treated like a discount off any future thenhljl Pool. Winners will be contacted individually on Apr 13.
Second place winner will be determined by their total goals for the season compared to the actual total goals for the season. The Poolie closest with the results win 2nd place. If still tied the Poolie closest without going over will win. If still tied then Poolies will share the prize..
Expect all HNIC PGP pages to be updated with results, calcs, news and info over the 24hr period (Sunday morning thru Monday morning). Check back often. Refreshing pages will help ensure you are looking at the latest.
Everyone feel free to email me your comments, complaints, suggestions etc… during this time. Your remarks help improve the HNIC PGP.
Everyone should think fun, and have fun, while partaking in any thenhljl hockey pool.
