Pick the winning teams each Saturday - Be the Poolie with the most correct wins... & you win the Pool.
Predicting the outcome of Saturday’s games.
Info
- Pool begins on the first Saturday of November & covers most Saturdays thru the end of season.
- Each Saturday has its own PGP card to be completed.
- One time entry fee of $40.
- Multiple entries by one Poolie are accepted - additional entries = $35 ea. (Terms & conditions apply… ask for more info)
- Deadline for each PGP Card is 1:00 pm on the given Saturday. Regardless any games’ start time.
- Every PGP Card submitted creates a date/time stamp.
- Cards can be completed online or using hardcopy (or reasonable facsimile).
How to partake in this Pool
- You partake by submitting the first PGP Card prior to deadline. Registration is done at the same time.
- You include your name and email with your first card (only). This is how you register.
- Only your Poolie Name is posted online. Personal info is never posted or shared.
- Each Saturday you complete the PGP Card, by selecting the winners & entering total goals.
If you Forget
- If you forget to submit a PGP Card, one is automatically submitted for you; with all the set-defaults.
- The set-defaults are: A) all visitor teams selected and B) total goals = 40.
- With these set defaults you can win individual Saturdays, as well as the entire Pool.
- Yes after you register & pay the entry fee, you can win by doing nothing at all.
Late Entry Date
- If you miss the very first card, you can still partake in this Pool. You complete the 2nd Saturday’s Card, accepting the defaults’ results from the first Saturday’s Card.
- The number of visitor wins on a missed first card cannot exceed 80% of the total number of games. The 80% restriction only pertains to a missed first card.
How to fill-out the PGP Card
Online:
- Go to the Online PGP Card web-page.
- Select the radio-button adjacent the team you think will win.
- Include the total goals scored (all games combined on that Sat).
- Include a Poolie name (hockey pool nickname).
- Include your name & email address (on the first PGP Card only).
- Finished… click ‘Submit’. Web-page will instantly refresh & display your picks. The fact you see this, confirms your entry is received and logged.
- You can right-click anywhere on this page & do save-as or print (for your own records). In the Chrome menu, click “Cast, save & share”, or keys <CTRL><S>.
- A snap-shot is taken of every entry and posted on the Poolies’ Picks web-page (12:50 - 1:10) each Saturday.
- Regardless when pics are posted, every entry has a date/time stamp.
Hardcopy:
- Download a ready-to-complete Card or use any reasonable facsimile, that lists all games/teams.
- Add a mark (‘X”) only beside the teams you think will win.
- Include the total goals scored (all games combined on that Sat).
- Include your Poolie-Name. If this is your first Card include your name and email.
- Once complete, take photo of this and email or text it (if you have my #). This creates a date time-stamp.
About Tie-Breaker
- Total goals means all goals scored on the Saturday. These total goals are recorded thru the entire season and used as a tie-breaker.
- If a tie-breaker calc is required for any individual Saturday, only that individual Saturday (Poolies’) tie-breakers are used.
- Tie-breaker for individual Saturdays goes to the closest (over/under) to actual total goals scored on that Saturday.
- If a tie still remains, the Poolie who is ‘under’ gets the win. If still tied, prize &/or points are shared for that Saturday.
- If a tie-breaker is required for the final Pool’s standings, the Poolies’ Saturday tie-breakers (over the season) are totalled & used, to confirm the winner.
- Tie-breaker for the final standings goes to the closest (over/under) to the total goals scored.
- If a tie still remains, the Poolie who is ‘under’ wins the final standings. If still tied, the prize is shared.
Poolies Picks - Notes
- The online card when submitted creates a date/time stamp. Verifying entry is prior to 1:00pm deadline. Submissions are automatically sent to an hnicpgp email address.
- A snapshot of each received Card is taken and uploaded/posted (on Poolies’ Picks page). Every effort is made so that all is uploaded between 12:50 & 1:10 pm.
- With hardcopy entries, a photo is taken and emailed or text’d. The photo and the email /text have a date/time stamp. Both are used to verify the card entry.
- If you want to take a snap-shot of Poolies’ picks-page, current Saturday or any Saturday (for your own records), please feel free.
- Entries are uploaded/posted right after 1:00 pm deadline. You can right-click on the page & do save-as or <CTRL><S>.
- Submit Button is disabled at 1:00pm. If for any reason (PC & Server cache & times?) a Card is submitted/received passed 1:00 pm, it’s flagged and examined. If it’s not detrimental with respect to the Saturday or overall pool, and is only a few seconds passed, it may be accepted. Please do understand, just a few “minutes” passed is different, and card will not be accepted.
Prizes & Fees
The Pool Money
NEW>>
Section was updated Feb 23, to correct Pool $$ total. One Poolie had qty 2 entries, therefore their total entry fee was $75, not $80. Reference the above rules, or ask for further explanation.
- A one-time entry fee of $40.00 gives you approx 20 Saturday picks. Multiple entries accepted.
- A $10-$20.00 website fee is deducted from total entry fees. Remaining $$$ goes to prizes - to you.
This 2024-25 season has 27 Poolies X $40 = $ 1080 and therefore a cash prizes pot of $ 1065.
This 2024-25 season has 27 Poolies (26 X $40 + 1 X 35 = $ 1075 and therefore a cash prizes pot of $ 1060. <<NEW
Prizes
- The following figures are adjusted accordingly, as per the number of participants. These amounts are confirmed by the second Saturday of November.
- The number of Saturdays paying instant $ 40 cash to Poolies with most wins on ‘Cash-Card’ Saturdays is _6_ for a total $ 240 for the season.
- $ 735 goes to 1st place overall (most correct wins for the season).
- $ 730 goes to 1st place overall (most correct wins for the season). <<NEW
- $ 90 goes to 2nd place overall (2nd most correct wins for the season). This is based on winner getting $40 entry refund & a bonu$ (pending # of participants).
Winners & Money
- Winners of PGP Cash Cards and of the final standings Cash, are contacted individually (within 48 hours) and arrangements made to receive their cash prizes.
- Reminder, the 1:00 pm deadline is set for all PGP Saturdays. Regardless if a game starts prior to 1:00 pm.
-
Postponed or Cancelled Games
- Any Saturday scheduled game postponed until a later date, is considered void (cancelled), regardless which team was picked to win. The rescheduled game is considered a completely new game, on whichever day of the week it lands.
- Any Saturday game or group of Saturday games cancelled and no later date intended, are considered void. If the total number of cancelled games reduces this pool’s number of PGP Saturdays by qty 3 or more, prizes will not be awarded. Partial prizes, &/or partial refunds &/or discounts will be provided, so to have closure to an unfinished season.
- Poolies are solely responsible for monitoring NHL scheduled games, for any changes (including postponed). More specifically, verifying total number of games being played on a PGP Saturday. As this can affect total goals score. Note: All Poolies have the option of resubmitting their PGP Cards regardless the reason. Any resubmitted Card must abide by the 1:00 pm deadline.
- Every PGP Pool issue, error and flagged PGP Card entry, is posted here below with proper description and explanation (when required). If any Poolie has comments or questions after reviewing this page first, they are encouraged to contact the pool admin (me) for additional explanations and clarity.
- Nov 02. Poolie reported “wrong dates” ref 2023-2024. Now corrected and showing this season 2024-2025. Poolies can look at the previous season, via associated links.
- Nov 03. All PGP 2024-2025 links rechecked and confirmed working. Poolie reported a broken 2024-25 link, but after clearing cache and refreshing their browser, all was displayed as it should be. Reminder to all that if something looks ‘off’, clearing cache & refreshing should fix it, if not please report the issue asap.
- Nov 07. Maintenance was required on the hosting-server side. All was completed on Nov 07. Refresh and clear your browsers’ cache, to ensure you’re seeing the latest website updates and upgrades.
- Nov 09. Two more Poolies joined on Nov 9th (late-entry-date). This makes for a total of 27 Poolies. Prizes’ Section will be updated to reflect the now 27 participants. This includes updating the PGP Calendar ref Cash PGP Sats.
- Nov 16. Poolie reported broken link on Poolies Picks’ page. Reference link connecting to 2023-2024 and not 2024-2025 page as was stated. This error came with new pages being uploaded with a previous link-error. This was immediately corrected and the Poolies Pick’s pages were re-uploaded (posted) at approx 1:14pm Nov 16. All is now correct. Refreshing &/or clearing cache will display proper (corrected) links.
- Nov 24. Poolie reported an error with wins/losses. A recount was done immediately and error was corrected. A recount of all picks was then performed. One other error was found and corrected. Reminder… Poolies picks are always rechecked early the following week to catch these errors. It helps much if Poolies check themselves and immediately report any error.
- Dec 14. Poolie “TNT” submitted card, indicated 1:00:56. PGP Card was accepted although late by 56 seconds. This was reviewed and accepted since only 56 seconds late and PC/Server cache did not kick in and expire the card. Both thenhljl and TNT were a bit late with uploads, therefore accepted.
- Dec 22. Poolie “BRADY BUNCH” reported error with total wins/losses incorrect sums. Spreadsheet data and formulas were rechecked and an error was found with 1 row. Formulas to calc sums, averages, etc are quite basic, every other cell is part of a string. Ref; red=Losses, blue=Wins. See figureDEC22 below for example. That 1 row marked “X”, the every other cell format, a cell was skipped and included with the “other” string of cells. This error was very puzzling. I just couldn’t determine why the error with “one” line. I ignored why it occurred and simply fixed it. The formula-strings for the entire spreadsheet were rechecked and all was confirmed as it should be (correct).
Thanks for reporting the error and again a reminder to all Poolies to check their points.
I’m more than certain this error would have eventually been picked up especially with weekly rechecks & final recheck of entire data the last PGP day.
NOTE: With this correction only the one Poolie was moved and reinserted in their correct position in standings; all others remained in same standing’s positions (but down one place because of insert).
- Jan 19. Poolie CRUSHER’s submitted card was overlooked and not uploaded/posted on Poolie’s Pick’s Page for Jan 18. This oversight was not caught until W/Ls were being determined on Sun Jan 19. It was confirmed, Poolie CRUSHER’s PGP Card was received at 12:41:15 pm, Sat Jan 18 and therefore uploaded then, onto the Poolies Picks page and accepted as “valid”. See PGP Card on Poolies Pick’s page and/or snap-shot of email receipt figureJAN19 (below) regarding this matter.
- Feb 08. Poolie JAY DANGLES’s card was submitted by another Poolie (so they wouldn’t miss) but JAY DANGLES did submit their own a minute before deadline. The Poolie’s Picks page was updated to reflect the one change of JAY DANGLES picks. Initial Poolies Page was uploaded at approx 1:05pm then reloaded to include their “updated” picks at approx 1:15pm. All was verified legit. No other poolie card was changed from the initial upload (1:05pm).
- Feb 23. Minor corrections were made to Standings (Standings Page) regarding Saturday winners and the cell background color green to hi-lite Sat-winners. Not sure if this “b/g color” error was a S/W glitch, CSS glitch or human error but its been corrected, Please note that no stats-figures in the standings were changed. There were no errors with “numbers” or standings’ “ranks”; only cell background colors (green vs white).
- Mar 09. Minor correction made to PGP Individual Saturday Standings (Standings Page). Duplicate Poolie name was reported. Poolie NO REGRETZKYS duplicate name was removed. Note that the PGP Individual Saturday Standings posted is not automated, it is manually updated therefore yes this was a human error. Also note that this error and correction have no relevance to the official Standings Statistics’ data (but again thank you for reporting). All Poolies should immediately report any type of error. It helps everyone.
- Mar 30. Poolie M&M wins/losses for Mar 22 was posted as 8W’s & 4Ls. The excel total-games-check, flagged this. Number of games on Mar 22 were 14 (not 12); therefore a correction made to stats to show 8W’s & 6Ls for Poolie M&M. This correction “did not” affect the standings (Poolies ranks).
